The Disobedience trailer is out, and it’s the lesbian film queer women deserve

It is a truth universally acknowledged that there are disappointingly few decent representations of lesbians on film.
Try as Hollywood might, they just seem leave most lesbian characters in a stream of rushes that scream “male gaze” and “Bechdel Test”.
Cue The Disobedience, the tale of two Jewish former lovers who are reunited after being separated by the Atlantic sea after they explored a forbidden romance in their adolescence.
The film explores the rekindling of the romance as Esti Kuperman (McAdams) finds herself drawn to Ronit Krushka (Weisz) when she returns to London after moving to New York, in spite of the fact she is married to Rabbi Dovid Kuperman, played by Alessandro Nivola.
It is based on the novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman, who skyrocketed to global fame with the release of The Power.
Starring Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams, the motion picture has pulled out all of the stops when it comes to a-list casting.
Director Seabstián Lelio will be making his first English-language debut with the film.
As it stands, the film has received a great deal of critical acclaim.
It had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2017, and its elite viewing audience have scored it a strong 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It is “beautifully acted by Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams and Alessandro Nivola as the three points of a melancholy romantic triangle, this is a deeply felt drama that exerts a powerful grip,” says the Hollywood Reporter.
However, there might be a bit of a wait for queer women hoping to see the film in action.
The film will be arriving on UK screens in August 2018.
