First Dates Hotel hopeful left confused after her ‘date’ turned out to be gay
A First Dates hopeful who appeared on the hotel version of the show last night was left shocked and confused when she realised her date wasn’t exactly the perfect man for her.
Esther, a single mum from South East London, was looking for someone “oozing with kindness” and preferably with a beard.
When she met Mark at the poolside in Italy, the pair seemed to click immediately and she started to talk to him more about his background.
The 55-year-old lives on a boat and he explained to Esther that he was a vicar for 25 years and, of course, lived in vicarages for that time.
However, he explained: “I then met a bloke who made it impossible to be straight anymore”.
Esther’s face paints a picture of absolute confusion and shock as she thought Mark was her date.
“So hang on. I thought this was our date?” she questioned.
“Oh no, I don’t think so,” he joked. “Something’s gone wrong with the system if it is.”
Esther then begins to laugh as she explained that she was “disappointed”.
She added: “I really like you!”
Mark then jokes that he’s “sorry” but she is not “what I’m after”.
The hilarious clip has since been shared online and viewers of the show were left in tears of laughter.
“Aw bless her,” one person wrote.
“One of the funniest moments of the series,” another added.
A third said: “It’s funnier when you re-watch it knowing, just like his face at the start”… Hi….?”
The hilarious but awkward blunder ended with Esther finally meeting her actual date, Lawrence.
The two failed to click and Esther left the hotel still in need of a lover.
First Dates is one of the few television programmes to consistently feature LGBT people.
It has brought together a number of LGBT couples, including Shaun and Greig, who announced their engagement late last year.
They had been together for six months, after the episode showing them first meeting aired on 20 June.
Taking to Twitter, Smith said: “I have some absolutely fantastic news for you all, sorry if I haven’t managed to speak to you over the weekend in person. Last week, I asked Mr. Greig Fairweather to marry me.
“And he said yes! Beyond thrilled, happy and excited. Haven’t stopped smiling!”
Later tweeting again, Smith posted to thank the staff of the First Dates restaurant, saying: “Hey @FirstDates @fredsirieix1 @CiCi_Coleman @austinventour. Remember seeing us earlier this year? Well, last week I asked Greig to marry me, and he said yes! Can’t thank you enough for everything! Shaun. #FirstDates”
Waiter CiCi Coleman responded: “YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! congratulations!!!! Sooooo happy to hear this.”
Maitre d Fred Sirieix and another waiter, Austin Ventour, replied to the tweet with a fair share of celebratory emojis.

In the scene, broadcast in October last year, a man claimed that he was “catfished by a tranny” before laughing about her having a ‘bigger penis’ than him.
His date then pretends to reveal that she is transgender as a joke.
The UK’s largest LGBT charity, Stonewall, condemned the broadcaster for airing the transphobic exchange which has been deemed “transphobic”, “disgusting” and “totally unacceptable”.
The version of First Dates in Poland only included heterosexual couples after a TV producer has labelled same-sex couples “unconstitutional” and said they should not find love on TV.
