Britney Spears is headlining Brighton Pride and fans can’t handle it

Pop superstar Britney Spears has been announced as a headline act for this year’s Brighton Pride and crashed the event’s website.

In an announcement Tuesday morning, Brighton Pride announced on Twitter that Britney will headline the Saturday evening event during the three-day celebration on August 4.

Brighton Pride had previously announced that there would be a surprise headline act and had anticipated “a high demand” for tickets.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, Britney said: “I’m so excited to be kicking off my UK tour this summer at Brighton Pride!

“I guarantee it’s going to be a night to remember and can’t wait to sing and dance with all of my LGBTQ fans.”

The famous Brighton festival has previously hosted acts such as The Pet Shop Boys and Years and Years.

The announcement was met with a significant reaction from fans, quickly trending on Twitter on Tuesday morning.

However, as excited fans attempted to get tickets for the event, the sheer volume of traffic reportedly broke the Brighton Pride ticketing website.

Brighton Pride apologised for any difficulty that fans were facing and told potential attendees to keep trying for tickets.

Fans took to Twitter to express their frustration about being unable to purchase tickets.

Many fans criticised the website itself, with one hopeful attendee calling the site ‘amateur.’

Other fans took the website’s crashing to be a sign of Britney’s talent and fan appeal.

However, this disruption was reportedly short-lived, with tickets available to purchase without issue by mid-morning.

Brighton Pride is one of the UK’s largest pride events and has been a key part of Brighton’s history since the first ever march took place in 1973.

The Daily Star reported at the time that she would hopefully be doing a string of dates, taking in South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

An insider told Daily Star Online: “Britney has wanted to tour for ages, her time in Vegas has given her so much more confidence and she can’t wait.

“The current plan is for the Piece of Me show to be duplicated around the world instead of a whole new set being created from scratch but discussions are in the early stages.”

Cities on the UK leg of the tour include London, Dublin, and Manchester.

The Hit Me Baby One More Time singer is likely to have a very busy 2018, with a potential Britney Spears musical in the works.

Theatre mogul Jerry Mitchell – the man who choreographed Kinky Boots – is behind the project, saying he has met with Britney to discuss the proposition.
