God’s Own Country actor thinks film success will result in more LGBT films being made

The star of God’s Own Country Josh O’Connor believes that the success of the blockbuster film has indicated a “hunger” for LGBT films that was previously underestimated.
The actor, who is nominated for the EE Rising Star award at the BAFTAs, believes that the entertainment industry is finally taking notice of its LGBT audience.
After being nominated for the award alongside Call Me By Your Name star Timothee Chalamet, the actor thinks that more LGBT films could get the chance to be made.
“It’s great. I think it’s a really important stat. It’s an important stat because it’s good for the industry to know there is a hunger for films like this and the narratives like these,” he said to Bang Showbiz.
“So the more we can say to the industry ‘come on, you need to make these.’ There is a hunger and you need to satisfy the hunger of the audience’ because these are the films they want to see,'” he added.
The film, which explores the burgeoning relationship between Johnny (played by O’Connor) and a gay farmer who falls in love with a migrant worker Gheorghe (played by Alec Secareanu).
It is clear that the film has been popular with audiences, with a 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Call Me By Your Name, which stars Timothee Chalamet, has also hit the headlines for its moving depiction of a gay relationship.
It is on track to receive six Oscar nominations.
