Dave Chappelle defends Kevin Spacey, mocks trans people in new Netflix special

Dave Chappelle has defended Kevin Spacey, mocked Louis CK’s victim and taken aim at the trans community in his new Netflix special that was released yesterday (December 31).

The controversial stand-up comedian has sparked outrage with the show, The Bird Revelation, which was released on New Year’s Eve.

The show was one half of a two-part special.

The first half, Equanimity, also premiered at the same time.

In the damaging hour-long episodes, Chappelle addressed accusations of transphobia that he faced in 2017.

The accusations came after he joked about Caitlyn Jenner in a separate Netflix special, talking about the prospect of her appearing nude in Sports Illustrated.

“F***, man,” he said during the set, “I just want to read some stats, like why are you cramming man-pussy in the middle of the sports page like that?”

Adding insult to injury, Chappelle remarked: “If I was in ISIS in the trenches fighting against the United States and all of the sudden I see a man with a beard and big D-cup titties just rushing my foxhole and s***, I’d be horrified.”

In the newly released episodes, Chappelle once again took aim at the community but claimed that he likes trans people and is not transphobic.

He started: “You know who hates me the most? The transgender community. I didn’t realise how bad it was. These motherf*ckers are really mad about that last Netflix special.

“It’s tough man, I don’t know what to do about it ’cause I like them. I always have. Never had a problem with them. Ya know, just f*cking around. And a matter of fact I think I make fun of everybody, and I mean as a group of people they have to admit… it’s kind of f*cking hilarious man.”

The comedian added that he did not “understand all the choices people make” but that he was trying to be more understanding.

“I do understand that life is hard, and that those types of choices do not disqualify you from a life with dignity and happiness and safety,” he added.

Chappelle also defended Kevin Spacey and took aim at one of Louis CK’s victims.

Both Spacey and Louis CK have been embroiled in the sexual harassment scandal coming out of Hollywood in the last few months.

Chappelle tried to joke that Spacey, who has been accused of a raft of sexual misconduct allegations, was “grabbing men by the p***y”.

He went on to refer to Star Trek actor Anthony Rapp, who accused Spacey of making sexual advances on him when he was 14.

Chappelle said: “Not to victim-blame, but it seems like the kind of situation that a gay 14-year-old kid would get himself into.”

He then appeared to suggest that the incident was not that serious because Rapp “grew up to be gay anyway.”
