Transgender model and activist Munroe Bergdorf came on Good Morning Britain to highlight the vile abuse she’s faced online – and was repeatedly silenced.

Bergdorf hit the headlines earlier this year when she lashed out at L’Oréal for firing her and called on her followers to boycott the company.

She was set to be the first trans woman to lead a UK campaign for the huge makeup company, but was fired after condemning white supremacy and white privilege on Facebook.

The trans activist also hit out a short-lived Dove advert, calling it “racially insensitive” on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Sky News and the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire show.

And she took issue with Doctor Who writer Gareth Roberts after he made a number of anti-trans jibes.

Today on Good Morning Britain, Bergdorf tried to open up about the abuse she has received online for being an outspoken trans woman of colour.

She dismissed the idea that far-right group Britain First’s leaders Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen being banned from Twitter yesterday was an attack on free speech.

“This is about racism and trying to stem the amount of racism, especially with young white men in modern Britain today,” said Bergdorf.

“These are the groups that are upholding it.

“I think it’s very different with institutions when you’ve got businesses and agencies targeting individual people with abuse.”

She opened up about the shocking slurs which have been tossed her way on Twitter.

“I was called a ‘n*****’, I was called a ‘black bitch,’ I was called a ‘tranny’ constantly by these people.”

In the short time since her appearance on the show this morning, Bergdorf has been called a “tranny” multiple times.

She was talked over and shouted out for using the n-word, with noted transphobe Piers Morgan throwing in his two cents.

He said: “My view of that, by the way, is the more that people use it of any colour, the worse it is.”

After being told by Piers and co-host Susanna Reid not to use the word, Bergdorf continued to say it, explaining: “I can’t say n***** and I’m going to say it. I’m going to say it.”

Defending her use of the word, she said: “This reaction of me using the n-word is seen as more violent than the fact that we are actually called this.

“Yet we are allowed to show blackface,” she added, referring to GMB showing a picture of footballer Antoine Griezmann after he painted himself black.

“It’s highly racist.”
