A member of Liberty X has come under fire for suggesting on Loose Women that gay parents don’t need maternity or paternity leave because they don’t have children.
Guest panellist on the show Kelli Young was speaking about whether pet owners should get a ‘pet-ernity’ leave when they adopt a new pet.
It was then that the star argued that the leave should be given to people who don’t want or can’t have children.
“But what about people who aren’t going to have kids like gay couples or straight couples who aren’t going to?”
“If they are not going to use paternity leave, why not give them a couple of weeks?”
Groans of confusion have been released into the Twittersphere.
Hmm.. Gay couples CAN have children. #loosewomen

Sorry to be one of those lesbians complaining but I’m fuming at @KelliYoungX for her comment ‘what about people who can’t have children like gay couples’ pretty sure I’m currently on maternity leave after having a child with my female fiancée! #LooseWomen #LGBT

Did Kelli Young really say gay couples can’t have children 🙄 there’s adoption, there’s surrogacy. She needs to be educated #Loosewomen

Greatly disappointed that I switched on to hear you suggest that gay couples wouldn't have children & not use parental leave. Plenty of LGBT people make and are wonderful parents.

Although Young did quickly correct her comment, a lot of viewers were frustrated by the fact that the assumption was made “without hesitation.”
“This flew off her tongue a little easily, backed up with straight couples nevertheless said without hesitation!” one tweeted.
“Errr cringing at Kellie suggesting gay couples cant have kids. Is she sure?!” another wrote.
‘Always love a good bit of casual homophobia from you lot. Believe it or not we are people and not just an “accessory”.Absolute fools.
How would you like it if it was “a menopausal best friend?”Absolute jokes,” wrote one angry commenter.
‘ Please delete this question. This is disgusting and should not be endorsed by a national TV programme. You should be ashamed of yourself. I’m no woman’s ‘gay best friend’. My sexuality has nothing to do with my friendship with anyone,’ added another.
