SNL mocks Trump in Christmas sketch inspired by A Christmas Carol
Donald Trump has once again been taken to task on Saturday Night Live (SNL) in a sketch mocking him for his first year in office.
The sketch, in which Alec Baldwin reprises his role as Trump, features other fan favourites including Kate McKinnon’s Kellyanne Conway and Hillary Clinton impressions.
Based on A Christmas Carol, Trump is visited in the sketch by other favourites Vladimir Putin and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
Introducing the scene, McKinnon, as Conway, asks why the President isn’t at the White House Christmas party.
She says: “I got so drunk I told the truth”.
Played by SNL cast member Mikey Day, Flynn appears in chains in a nod to A Christmas Carol, echoing Jacob Marley in the classic.
Flynn is introduced as “the ghost of witness flipped.”
“Mr President, I came to warn you, it’s time to come clean for the good of the country,” Flynn says.
“There’s a lot of people from your past that could come back to haunt you. Tonight, you will be visited by three of them.”
The cold open also features Cecily Strong as first lady Melania Trump.
The ghost of Christmas past is Billy Bush, played by Alex Moffat who appears and makes reference to the 2005 Access Hollywood tape that saw Bush dismissed from the Today Show in 2016.
And referencing the sacking of the Today Show’s anchor Matt Lauer last week, he says: “I’m looking pretty good in the NBC News division right now.”
Putin, played by Bennet appears and warns the President against messing up his Presidency.
He says: “Listen, we put a lot of work into you, a lot of time and money, and you’re about to mess it all up.”
Then the ghost of Christmas future appears, cloaked, and Baldwin’s Trump assumes Steve Bannon is underneath.
But it turns out to be McKinnon’s Hillary, who says: “You, Donald, have given me the greatest Christmas gift of all —- sexual gratification in the form of your slow demise.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to say this -— lock him up!”
Ending, Baldwin says: “I know what I need to do… Erase Seasons 1-14 of ‘The Apprentice’ and fire Robert Mueller.”
