The first trailer for gay teen film Love, Simon is out – and fans are so excited
New gay film Love, Simon has released its first trailer – and it promises a rollercoaster of emotions.
The young adult dramedy, which is set to come out in March next year, tracks Simon, a 17-year-old high school student who has not come out to any of his friends and family.
Based on Becky Albertalli’s book Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, the blockbuster will see Simon – played by US actor Nick Robinson – come of age as he comes out.
13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford stars alongside Hollywood stalwart Jennifer Garner in the film.
And its Langford’s character Leah who emotionally asks Simon in the trailer: “Do you ever feel weird?
“Sometimes I feel like I’m always on the outside.
“There’s this invisible line that I have to cross to really be a part of everything, and I just can’t ever cross it.”
After a meaningful pause, Simon tells her: “Me too.”
The premise of the film is summed up by the next line, in which Simon says through a voiceover: “I’m just like you – except I have one huge-ass secret.
“Nobody knows I’m gay.”
He attempts to be more insightful later in the trailer, when he tells the audience: “I’ve been thinking about why I haven’t come out yet.
“Maybe a part of me wants to hold onto who I’ve always been a little longer.”
As the music soars, Simon asks: “No matter what, announcing who you are to the world is pretty terrifying.
“Because what if the world doesn’t like you?”
At the end of the trailer, fans can enjoy a funny scene which Simon introduces by saying: “P.S.: It doesn’t seem fair that only gay people have to come out.
“Why is straight the default?”
The audience is then treated to the sight of straight people coming out to their parents.
One mum reacts strongly to her daughter coming out as “heterosexual” – perhaps misunderstanding what she means.
Fans were thrilled.
One said: “I HAVE TEARS IN MY EYES RN IM SO HAPPY MY HEART HURTS”.
Another, also in all-capitals, wrote: “I LOVE IT SO MUCH AND FROM WHAT WE SEE IT GIVES THE BOOK JUSTICE AND ITS BEAUTIFUL AND AWKWARD AND JUST PERFECT”.
This proved a theme, with one fan saying: “THIS LOOKS SO FREAKING GOOD!!! #LOVESIMON”.
