Proud dad goes viral after his young daughter complains about ‘the gay agenda’
A dad has gone viral after he shared his pride in his daughter’s ability to spot ‘the gay agenda’ in children’s television shows.
In a post to the ‘That Happened‘ Reddit page, a story was shared involving a father and his observant daughter.
The daughter, who is reportedly a fan of the “extremely stupid kid shows,” said she would no longer watch the show “because there is this boy that has a crush on another boy.”
The dad then continues his story, starting with the completely reassuring phrase: “Now I don’t really have a problem with gay folks.”
The unnamed father then talked about his total support for the gay people in his life, saying: “People should be allowed to pursue [their] own happiness, regardless of how abnormal it may be.”
He continued: “It was an extremely proud moment for me that my 10-year-old daughter is able to recognize on her own the way the media pushes the gay agenda on our children.”
The show in question was the Disney Channel show Andi Mack, one of Disney’s biggest shows.
In the second season of Andi Mack, 13-year-old character Cyrus develops feelings for a fellow teenage boy, Jonah.
In response to pressure from homophobes, Disney Channel pulled Andi Mack from broadcast in as many as 50 countries across Africa and the Middle East.
Conservative campaign group One Million Moms launched a boycott of Disney Channel in response to the gay storyline.
Reddit users were quick to comment on the father’s story, questioning whether the tale was genuine and the use of the term ‘gay agenda.’
Some commenters pointed out the stupidity of the term ‘gay agenda’ when most gay people simply wish to exist and be fairly represented in society.
One reply said: “I am honestly curious as to what “gay agenda” he thinks is being pushed here. How is acknowledging that gay people exist an “agenda” in any sense of the word?”
Other commenters took a more satirical approach.
“Not sure what the gay agenda is, but I suspect it will lead to the normalisation of unholy practices such as brunch.”
Earlier this year, an anti-LGBT group announced plans to start production on their own family films, boycotting Disney’s “homosexual agenda.”
