A musical about a 16-year-old trying to fulfil his dream of being a drag queen is making waves ahead of its theatrical release in London.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will be opening at the Apollo Theatre in November, after a critically acclaimed run at Sheffield Crucible.

The musical won best musical production at the UK Theatre Awards last week, while its star John McCrea was named best musical performer.

You can get your free Limited Edition Valentine’s Special ‘Strawberry Spotlight’ Cocktail with every ticket from £35 to £95 for the Wednesday 14th February performance at 7.30pm. To book, call 0330 333 4809 and quote ‘VALENTINE’ or click here.

These two honours represent just reward for a production which doesn’t break down barriers as much as leave them crushed in its wake.

With support from his friends and loving mum, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness.

And where else would you go from the darkness, but right into the spotlight.

Described as “fearless, funny and fabulous,” it positions itself as a glorious coming-of-age story.

“Sixteen: the edge of possibility. Time to make your dreams come true,” the description states.

Directed by Jonathan Butterell and written by Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae, the limited run in London will see McCrea return as the main character.

“Jamie New is sixteen and lives on a council estate in Sheffield,” the musical’s bio begins.

Jamie doesn’t quite fit in.

“Jamie is terrified about the future.

“Jamie is going to be a sensation,” it concludes, magically.

And it promises: “Fairy tales really do come true.”
