LGBT activists to protest outside church that advocates ‘gay cure’ by starvation

October 10, 2017

LGBT activists are preparing to protest outside a church that was secretly recorded advocating for gay-cure therapy.

A shocking undercover investigation revealed that the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry church, in Liverpool, is claiming to be able to ‘cure’ homosexuality by starvation.

The assistant pastor of the Liverpool church was recorded recommending an undercover reporter starve himself for three days to become heterosexual.

The head of the church was later revealed to be a brain surgeon working on the NHS, who could face a General Medical Council investigation.

Now the University of Liverpool’s Amnesty International society is holding a protest outside the church.

Joe Ferguson, LGBT+ officer for the group, told the Liverpool Echo: “I came to Liverpool as a doe-eyed 18-year-old student and it’s the city where I became an adult.

“I owe a lot to the city and I was just absolutely shocked to read what I read in the ECHO, happening just 20 minutes from where I live.

“We have a prevalent LGBT community at our university and we want a show of strength to show that we won’t stand for this hatefulness, and we won’t stand for what is frankly a dangerous therapy.

“Being gay is who I am, it doesn’t define me but I am able to be proud of that, and it’s backwards that anyone would offer something to change that or suggest that it even could be changed.

“We want to send a message that we’re here, we’re queer and we won’t live in fear.

“It will be a peaceful protest but we want to send a message that it’s unacceptable.”

Liverpool Echo journalist Josh Parry revealed the church’s shocking claims after going undercover, posing as a gay man seeking a cure.

Dr Desmond Dele Sanusi, pastor of the Liverpool branch of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, is a registered doctor with the General Medical Council.

He is believed to work as a neurosurgeon for the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

The church’s assistant pastor, Brother Michael, was filmed by an undercover reporter saying that being gay is “biologically wrong”.

In a bizarre rant, recorded by the undercover journalist, the pastor calling himself Brother Michael said that people only pretend to be gay due to celebrities.

While labelling homosexuality a “deceit of Satan”, he told the reporter: “How many professors, how many airlines, except those in Hollywood, except the boxer, except the sportsmen, except the singers, are coming out to say they are feeling gay.

“Their reward is the celebrity. That is what you are following in. So many people now want to do it for publicity.

“I thank God that you have come to where you think you will get help and I know you are going to get the help.

“With the help of God, with prayer, with praying, with the help of God you will have children. You will marry and have your children.”

The journalist also recorded the pastor yelling at a group session: “Die in the name of Jesus and Christ. You are a liar. Die in the fire.”

Gay cure therapy has been widely and conclusively debunked by experts.

It is not possible to change a person’s sexuality, by fasting or by any other means.
