A gay couple got engaged at a baseball game, and it was glorious.

During a game in Washington between the home crowd’s Nationals and the Pittsburgh Pirates, the camera panned to two hardcore Nationals fans.

The men, Ty Fleming and Tyler Garrison, stood grinning at the camera as Ty held a special Nationals box he’d been given.

Then Screech the bald eagle, the Nationals’ mascot, handed him a second box.

This one had a ball inside, and as he glanced at it, he mouthed the words: “Oh my god” for everyone to see.

Instantaneously, Tyler went down on one knee, and opened the third – and most important – box.

As the crowd cheered, Tyler, a realtor from Oregon, popped the question.

Ty said yes, and the pair kissed and embraced in front of (mostly) happy fans.

Two couples behind the newly engaged pair sat grumpily, but everyone else was beaming.

Ty and Tyler even got a hug from Screech, who was punching the air in delight.

Ty’s eyes started welling up as the couple embraced again.

We can all agree that public proposals are wonderful to watch – as long as they go well, of course.

In the last year alone, there have been multiple occasions like Ty and Tyler’s engagement.

In July, a rugby player proposed at Pride in London, with Fernando Ferreira stepping away from his team to drop to one knee at the barrier in front of his boyfriend, Greg Woodford.

And Liverpool Pride saw its own wonderful rugby-inspired engagement in front of hundreds of people.

For the proposal, rugby player Mark Bevan threw a ball to boyfriend Mike Collins.

Collins, surprised, caught the ball and read the message, which on one side said: “Hello.”

On the other side, it read: “Michael, will you marry me?”

As Collins read the message, Bevan got down on one knee and takes out a ring.

Collins accepted, and the two kissed in front of a joyous crowd.

Back at Pride in London, crowds shouted in joy as a woman got down on one knee and proposed to her police officer girlfriend during the celebrations.

The beautiful moment that the two women, Jane and Dizzy, got engaged was captured on video and shared on the British Transport Police Twitter account.

It was the 45th annual London Pride parade held and marked 50 years since decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales.
