Spoiler Alert
Great British Bake Off fans were left disappointed Tuesday after a gay favourite was voted off.

The Channel 4 programme is in its fourth week of the series.

This week saw the contestant take to caramel challenges, with some incredible sugar sculptures erected on top of cakes.

But one contestant has to go every week – and this time it was Twitter’s fave.

Architect Tom Hetherington, 29, who lives with his boyfriend in Edinburgh, struggled through his baking.

Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith criticised the inside of his cake, as it crumbled away during the show stopper challenge.

Despite being fancied and fawned over by viewers, no amount of Twitter popularity could save him from eviction.

Tom took to Twitter after being axed from the show to say: “I came unstuck in #CaramelWeek.

“So sorry to leave the tent, but honoured to have been a part of it all”

He posted a follow up Tweet to say he had “loved every minute” in the tent.

Before the series began, Tom’s bio read: “As a true Scot, Tom can often be found making fresh shortbread to welcome friends and family into his home.

“When he’s not baking, Tom loves the great outdoors.

“He enjoys rugby, triathlons, marathons, skiing, horse riding, fresh water swimming and hiking as well as writing and photography.”

He’ll have plenty of time for those hobbies now.
