Viva Forever? Spice Girl hints at musical’s return

The ill-fated Spice Girls musical Viva Forever may be making a triumphant return to the West End.

Mel C, also known as Sporty Spice, has hinted at a return of the show.

Viva Forever was written by Jennifer Saunders and follows the character of Viva as a budding pop star on a TV talent show.

The musical features many of the Spice Girls’ hits, including Wannabe, Who Do You Think You Are and Viva Forever itself.

In an interview with Gay Times, Mel C said: “The music lends itself so well to musical theatre.

“I just think, at some point, we will [bring it back].”

She added: “It’s something we talk about.

“We’d really love to make that work and for people, not only in London to enjoy it but tour it and take it international. We’d love to do that!”

Viva Forever had a short West End run, only playing for seven months before closing in June 2013.

The Spice Girls have teased a band reunion several times over the last few years, with many fans desperate since their indefinite hiatus in 2000.

Geri Horner (formerly Geri Halliwell) sparked new hope when she told The Sun in April: “We’re not re-forming immediately, but in the near future.”

Emma Bunton also told The Sun: “We’re always talking about it. I think it would be amazing, so I’m on the case and Geri’s the same.

“It’s about finding the perfect time. We want to make it right for our fans.

“But it would be a shame not to do something.”

In a recent PinkNews exclusive, Mel C spoke of her love of Sia and gave a heartfelt tribute to the late George Michael:

She said: “He was a very kind man, a very sweet man, and one of the last things I remember talking to him about – he came into our dressing room at the Olympics and he was really nervous.

“I just found that incredible that the wonderful George Michael was nervous.”

When asked about a Spice Girls reunion, Mel C told PinkNews: “I would never say it’s not going to happen – who knows what the future holds. There aren’t any plans at the moment, but…”

We can only hope the ‘Saturday Night Divas’ return soon.
