As small tidbits of information trickle out about Mean Girls the Musical on Broadway, Tina Fey has given us two big announcements… sort of.

Written by Fey, the musical based on the iconic 2004 movie will hit Washington DC in Autumn 2017.

In a short video on Facebook, Fey said she had two important announcements.

Granted the first announcement is that she has got GPS in her car, the second is that the Mean Girls Musical is officially going ahead on Broadway.

Watch the announcement below:

The show will premiere on 31 October and run through to 3 December at the National Theatre in Washington DC.

Mean Girls bosses broke the totally grool news on October 3rd last year – Mean Girls Day, obviously – but the exact date for the adaptation is still to be confirmed.

A representative on behalf of the creators confirmed the news to Playbill.com, saying that “they are all really excited and will have a formal announcement with additional information very soon.”

Fey will work alongside Tony Award-nominated Legally Blonde lyricist Nell Benjamin, as well as her own husband, composer Jeffrey Richmond.

Fey said that the pregnancy of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – which she also writes – star Ellie Kemper means she can focus her full attention on Regina George and the rest of the plastics’ musical debut.

“We’re working on the musical adaptation, and thanks to Ellie Kemper’s pregnancy, we have this whole summer to work on it,” Fey said at the Tribeca Film Festival.

When asked whether the musical would include the impact of social media, Fey said: “The thing about social media is… it doesn’t dramatise well.”

She says the musical will have a classic Broadway style, avoiding modern pop songs.

“We haven’t finished it yet, but it’s close — yes, pretty close,” she added.

Fey previously admitted getting the musical right is “tricky”, saying “Book of Mormon really nailed that genre!”

Earlier this year, she joked the that the musical would be finished in “2027… whenever Hamilton finishes!”
