A trailer for an upcoming Sims expansion featured an adorable gay wedding – with a doggy bridesmaid.

EA released a trailer this week for Cats & Dogs, the upcoming expansion to popular life simulator The Sims 4.

The trailer shows off the game’s upcoming pets add-ons, featuring cats and dogs.

The clip includes a beautiful side moment as a cat is introduced to a puppy while their respective owners are shown on a date in the background.

The trailer then jumps forward to the same two pets as bridesmaids at a wedding, as their two owners tie the knot.

The crowd cheers as the two men kiss, while a dog in a tuxedo is also seen barking.

Players have been able to hold gay weddings on The Sims games for more than a decade, but it’s possibly the first time they have been prominent in the game’s own marketing materials.

The subtle moment has been praised by fans.

One wrote: “You showed a gay wedding. It’s such a small thing, but you have no idea how much it means to the LGBTQ community to be represented as part of everyday life in popular media. Thank you.”

Of course, this being the internet, not everyone was pleased.

A commented complained: “I thought the pack look [sic] great before the lgbt wedding part came up, literally the most irrelevant and unnecessary clip in the history of Sims trailers.

“You are putting your filth in a game that even teenagers from the age of 12 are playing.

“Just for a cheap advertisement and a few claps from eager liberals you are willing to pollute young children’s minds. I was going to pre-order this Ep but now I don’t have a slightest desire to spend even a cent on it.

“This is not the kind of content parents want to see their kids playing so let me tell your whole staff : your marketing strategy is wrong, immoral and absolutely unethical.”

Same-sex relationships have been present in the EA franchise since the first game in 2000, with same-sex adoptions and marriage later added to the series.

Last year The Sims won praise with an update which completely removed all gender restrictions on clothing, and allowed gender characteristics to be tweaked..

It allows for transgender Sims to be portrayed any way that a player desires.

The studio said it worked alongside LGBT advocacy group GLAAD on the update – which also de-emphasised the gender of Sims in in-game menus.
