Princess Diana poured her heart out to George Michael during her divorce from Prince Charles

A new recording has revealed Princess Diana’s heartbreak at divorcing Prince Charles.

The People’s Princess can be heard opening her heart to popstar George Michael in a new recording, unearthed by The Sun.

Diana can be heard describing the Royal Family as “not very loving” in the revealing phone chat.

According to The Sun, the conversation was recorded by an answering machine when he rang to wish the princess a happy birthday.

He later handed the tape over to childhood friend Andros Georgiou, who had been in the Hampstead property at the time of the call.

Diana, who was killed at in a car crash the following year, is heard telling George about her royal break-up, saying: “It’s been pretty grim, but we’re near the end of it.

“Not a very loving, compassionate family, this one I’m leaving.”

She also gives an insight into the personal stress of the whole process, revealing that she was discouraged from meeting with people.

Asked about meeting up, Diana replies: “Well George, at the moment can I just wait until this has all quietened down? Otherwise . . .

“George: Of course. Are you in meetings everyday and everything?

“Diana: Just lawyers, you know what they’re like

“George: Oh God

“Diana: It’s OK, it’s very grown-up.”

The pair also joked about Sir Elton John’s extensive shoe collection, with Diana comparing him to Philippines’ First Lady Imelda Marcos.

Around the same time of the call, Wham! star George is said to have revealed he wished he was not gay.

According to TV presenter and journalist Richard Madeley, George shared the bombshell at a dinner party.

Madeley says that, asked what sexuality he would pick were it a totally free choice, Michael said “not to be gay”.

Apparently the singer, who didn’t come out until the late 1990s, struggled with being gay as he found it “complicated”.
