The LGBT Log Cabin Republicans are holding a gala dinner in a hotel owned by President Trump, despite his attacks on equality.

The Log Cabin Republicans group claims to advocate for LGBT rights within the Republican Party.

The group has repeatedly opposed decisions on LGBT issues taken during the Trump administration’s time in office – speaking out against the ban transgender people from the military, opposition to anti-discrimination protections for gay workers, and the revocation of civil rights protections for trans kids in schools.

But their outrage on paper to Trump’s anti-LGBT agenda doesn’t apparently extend to where they spend their money.

The group is throwing a $200-per-ticket gala dinner on September 27 at the Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C.

Gregory T. Angelo, the group’s president, insisted to TheWrap that the venue was chosen because “the Trump Hotel gave us a very competitive deal” and a rival venue was “unable to accommodate us”.

Failed Republican Presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina is expected to headline the event. Ms Fiorina repeatedly flip flopped during her Presidential run on same-sex marriage.

No serving Trump cabinet officials have been confirmed as speakers.

The event will apparently celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Log Cabin Republicans’ work to promote equality inside the party.

They are bound to celebrate fantastic achievements like electing zero openly gay Republican Congressmen, electing zero openly gay Republican Senators, the appointment of zero openly gay Cabinet members, and 40 years of GOP lawmakers resisting anti-discrimination protections for LGBT people.

Republicans continue to oppose federal anti-discrimination protections to protect people from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Successive Democrat-led bills have sought to bring the law into line with civil rights protections that cover sex and race, but few GOP lawmakers are willing to break ranks on the issue.

Just two Republicans in Congress support the Equality Act, which would introduce federal rights protections.

The law has amassed the support of nearly 200 Democrats in the House and 43 in the Senate.

The only Republicans to declare support are Florida Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who is not seeking re-election in 2018, and Virginia’s Rep. Scott Taylor.
