Ellen DeGeneres pitches Siri against Alexa and the tech wars just got very real

The tech wars keep on rumbling, and Amazon has trundled into Apple’s territory by having an Alexa app available for your iPhone.

Of course, this puts it head-to-head with Apple’s own voice-based Siri personal assistant, and if this cheeky video from Ellen DeGeneres is anything to go by, things just got real.

“I don’t know if you’ve heard, but now you can talk to Alexa on your iPhone?” Ellen asks.

“So now you have Alexa and Siri together, and I’m not sure it’s a really good idea… look what I saw.”

The hilarious video shows just what happens when the two assistant apps get into battle with one another over the affections of the iPhone’s owner.

What starts off as a slight difference of opinion on the percentage chance of rain descends into an all-out phone-vibrating war.

“Nice to meet you Alexa,” Siri says at one point, “now get the hell away from my man.”

Yikes.

And that’s before Google Home gets in on the action.

You can watch the hilarious Ellen sketch in full below:

Apple first released Siri way back in October 2011.

Amazon followed with its own Alexa software in November 2014, and Google Home followed in November 2016.

It’s not the first time that Ellen has had some fun with Siri.

She had a chat with the assistant for a 2011 skit, and the assistant seemed to be even more intuitive than she’d bargained for.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been running for a massive 14 seasons since it started in 2003.

It’s clocked up well over 2,000 episodes in that time, and as well as Ellen’s monologue’s and guest stars her sketches have always been a great part of the mix.

Last month, Forbes released a list of the world’s highest paid entertainers, with Ellen right up in second place on $77 million.

She was just below fellow talkshow host Dr Phil McGraw, who edged her out with $79 million.
