Gina Rodriguez has said she is “more bisexual” than the title character she plays on ‘Jane the Virgin’.

The star appears on BUST magazine’s cover, and discusses bisexuality, feminism and masturbation.

Many fans ship Rodriguez’s character Jane and Rafael’s ex-wife Petra, dubbing the fantasy pairing as ‘Jetra’.

Addressing the rumours that the two characters might get together, Rodriguez says: “Jane with Michael was everything to me, and I really can’t imagine Jane being with anyone else.”

But she says she sees ‘Jetra’ online “so often”, “and so many fans ask me if Jane is bisexual. Jane is the furthest from bisexual — maybe Gina’s a little closer than Jane is! — but I love that they want that. And I’m all about ‘Jetra.’I love ‘Jetra.’”

She also says she wants to play the girlfriend of bisexual Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor Stephanie Beatriz’s character.

“I want to play her love interest so bad,” says Rodriguez. “I really hope they make that happen.”

Last year Rodriguez tweeted of her own sexual orientation.

She wrote: “I don’t need anyone to define their sexuality to me nor do I feel the need to either. I love hearts. Period.”

Of masturbation in her own life, Rodriguez tells BUST: “In all honesty, I used to feel guilty for masturbating. Oh my god, this extreme guilt! And that lasted way too long. Or maybe I masturbated too much! It’s OK to look back in retrospect and be like, it wasn’t good that I felt bad about touching myself.”

Rodriguez was nominated for an MTV Movie & TV Award earlier this year

The awards show adopted fully gender-neutral categories. The rebranded MTV Movie & TV Awards will see female and male nominees will compete against each other in the “best actor in a movie” and “best actor in a show” categories.

Women have taken four of the six spots for the award, with Jane The Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez and Mandy Moore from This Is Us also nominated.
