Man who ‘married’ his laptop suing homophobic baker because they won’t make him a wedding cake
A man who “married” his laptop is suing the Colorado baker who refused to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding because they won’t make him a cake either.
Chris Sevier, who identifies as a “machinist” has claimed that he married his laptop bride in New Mexico.
Now, he is pursuing a court case against the Colorado bakers, Masterpiece Cakeshop because they won’t bake him a cake.
He has also attempted to sue the state of Utah to recognise his marriage.
Lawyers have said the case is likely to fail, but a judge in Utah has let it proceed anyway.
Sevier is using the 2015 ruling in the Obergefell case to back up his lawsuits. The case set precedent for same-sex marriage equality in the US.
The man claimed that if same-sex couples are recognised, then marriages between people and objects should be granted that same right.
Sevier said: “If marriage based on self-asserted sex-based identity narratives is a ‘fundamental right,’ ‘individual right,’ ‘existing right,’ based on a ‘personal choice’ for homosexuals, then clearly it is also a ‘fundamental right,’ ‘individual right,’ ‘existing right,’ based on a ‘personal choice’ for polygamists, zoophiles and machinists.”
Sevier is notoriously homophobic, having previously launched a lawsuit against a congresswoman for putting a Pride flag outside of her office.
Stephen Colbert went head to head with “a homophobic baker” on the late show, and it was hilarious.
In a segment talking about the Supreme Court and Neil Gorsuch, Colbert addressed the recent news that the court would hear the case of a Colorado baker who refused to bake a same-sex wedding cake.
Daniel St John Daniels is a baker and “artist” who refuses to sell wedding cakes to same same-sex couples because he is an artist and “as an artist, I am very close minded about sexuality and trying new things,” the character quipped.
The character says that he “refused to use the letters L, G, B, T or Q” and then said that he had been “glued to the news” with his boyfriend.
Earlier this year a woman in San Diego, California, claimed that she had married a train station and likened her sexuality to being “gay”.
45-year-old Carol explained: “Most people know this building as the Santa Fe Depot, but I know her as my friend, my life partner, my wife, Daidra Santa Fe.”
According to the Mirror, Carol takes a 45-minute bus ride from her San Diego, California home to see the station in downtown San Diego every day.
“I have been in love with the station since I was a young girl,” she said.
“Objectum sexuality is not a mental illness like the media always makes out. It is our sexuality, just like being lesbian or bisexual – we are not crazy.”
