Russian MP claims Angela Merkel ‘kissed Satan’ by permitting gay marriage vote

A Russian MP has suggested that German Chancellor Angela Merkel is making out with Satan, after equal marriage got the green light last week.

After years of delays, the lower house of the German Parliament gave the green light to same-sex marriage last week in a landslide vote.

In a bid to sit on the fence, the country’s right-wing Chancellor Angela Merkel permitted the motion to go ahead – but cast her own vote against same-sex marriage, explaining she believes it should be “between a man and a woman”.

However, any attempt to appease conservatives is not washing with Russian MP Vitaly Milonov, a fierce opponent of LGBT rights.

Mr Milonov, who is a vocal critic of equality across Europe, suggested Merkel change the name of her party from the Christian Democratic Union to the Satanic Democratic Union.

According to blogger Joe My God, he said: “I will appeal to the bishops of Germany to excommunicate Angela Merkel and the members of the Bundestag who voted for this decision…. let them worship with the Church of Satan.

Of Merkel, he said: “She has entered into an agreement with Satan… she kissed Satan for the sake of forming a coalition government”

393 members of parliament voted in favour of the bill, with 296 voting against and 4 abstentions.

Merkel still cast her own personal vote against the legislation.

She explained: “For me, marriage in the Basic Law is marriage between a man and a woman and that is why I did not vote in favour of this bill today.

“I hope that the vote today not only promotes respect between different opinions but also brings more social cohesion and peace.”

Meanwhile Germany’s far-right Alternative für Deutschland party, which is led by an openly gay politician, is planning a legal challenge to block same-sex marriage.

The far-right AfD is already planning a legal challenge, arguing that the change would actually require an amendment to Germany’s constitution.

The action could potentially lead to massive delays for gay couples waiting to marry – despite the party being led into the federal election by lesbian politician Alice Weidel.
