Dame Judi Dench has opened up about encountering anti-LGBT protesters at the Oscars.

The acting legend recalled the story to Graham Norton.

She said: “I once provided the voice of a cow in [2004 animated film] Home on the Range.

“We were at the Oscars where there were a lot of protests about Brokeback Mountain and as we pulled up in the car a very angry man with a placard shouted at as, ‘Homos on the Range!’

“I thought, why are you so angry? My film is only about cows!”

The actress may have taken the protest personally, as within just a few years of the incident she starred in gay-themed thriller Notes on a Scandal.

The film featured Dench as a lesbian spinster who becomes embroiled in the life of a younger teacher.

Notes on a Scandal took Dench back to the Oscars, as she bagged a Best Actress nomination for the role

The James Bond actress opened up about the protest while appearing on the Graham Norton Show’s sofa tonight alongside Jamie Foxx, Kristen Wiig and Steve Carell.

She also opened up about being impersonated by comic Tracey Ullman, who has a recurring skit featuring Dench as a thief who uses her celebrity status to get away with crimes.

Dame Judi confessed: “I think she is brilliant but she has got me into a lot of trouble.

“I was at a farm shop with a big bag over my shoulder the other day and I was having a look at all the stuff for sale when the salesman said, ‘Watch it!’, implying I was about to steal something!”

Norton recently opened up about a hilarious incident with his dog after a one-night stand.
