Adele surprises Grenfell Tower fire fighters when she turns up with cake

Superstar Adele paid a surprise visit to some of the fire fighters who fought the Grenfell Tower blaze.

The pop star turned up unannounced to meet the heroes, accompanied only by a cake she had baked for them.

The men had been fighting to save lives of those caught in the 24 storey west London fire through last week.

The pop star, originally from Tottenham, north London, knocked on the window of the fire station and asked to come in, according to witnesses.

Station Manager Ben King said: “She just turned up at the station and knocked on the window and said she has some cakes for us.

“So we opened the door to her and then she took her sunglasses off and said: ‘Hi, I’m Adele’. Everyone was so shocked.

“She came in, came up to the mess and had a cup of tea with the watch and then she joined us for the minute’s silence.

“We have had so much support for the local community and we cannot thank everyone enough.”

Rob Petty, another worker at Chelsea fire station, documented the visit online.

Writing on Facebook Mr Petty posted: “Lovely girl, genuinely grounded, interested and humbled. Beautiful.”

79 people are thought to have died in the deadly blaze.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but it has been widely claimed the fire spread after the building was covered in cladding which was not fire resistant.

Some residents say they had reported safety concerns as much as four years ago, but their complaints went unanswered.

Among the survivors were a gay couple who had a miracle exit.

It’s not the first time Adele has paid a visit to the scene.

The multi-million selling artist was pictured by a fan embracing victims of the tragedy last week.

The singer has made no public declaration of her visit, instead choosing to quietly meet and offer help to victims.

It is also reported her husband, Simon Konecki, joined her on the visit.

“Adele was spotted at Grenfell Tower today offering her support to everyone affected by the tragedy,” one fan account posted.

The post was accompanied by pictures appearing to show the Hello star at the scene.
