LGBT icon ‘The Babadook’ is creeping back into the cinema this June as part of an LGBT fundraising event.

The Babadook is going to be screened at the Los Angeles art house Arena Cinelounge.

There will be three fundraiser screening “with proceeds supporting LGBTQ awareness,” according to the Arena Cinema programme for the event.

Screenings will be held from June 23 to the 26.

The cinema also plans to hold a panel discussion where fans can ask people who have worked on the film questions, called “Babashook: From Monster to Cultural Icon.”

Fans are also invited to a Babadook cosplay and Karaoke at a local bar.

At the moment, there is no indication of a wider re-release for the film coming anytime soon.

The Babadook was a widely praised indie horror film by Jennifer Kent in 2014, about a single mother and her son who are terrorised by the otherworldly creature ‘The Babadook.’

Across social media at the end of 2016, ‘The Babadook’ was adopted by the gay community metaphor for coming out.

Not only due to the creature being locked in the family’s basement in the film but also due to a hilarious Netflix mix-up where the film was categorised as an LGBT film.

This resulted in some hilarious memes spreading across social media platforms Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook.

Since then The Babadook has been cosplayed across social media and at Pride parades by members of the LGBT community.

So far, this month there have been multiple sightings of the Babadook at the DC and LA Pride parades.

Earlier this month drag queen Miles Jai took The Babadook meme to the next level by dressing up as the creature while attending the season nine finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Once pictures of her cosplay hit social media Jai was hailed by members of the LGBT community, some even claimed that she was the real winner of season nine of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
