A transgender YouTuber has opened up about getting his period four years after starting testosterone.

Jamie Raines is a trans man who frequently uploads videos about his experience with transitioning.

However, his most recent video is one that he never thought he would make – especially four years into his hormone treatment.

Raines recently started getting a period again after changing the type of testosterone that he was on.

He explained that he was not sure if he wanted to make the video, but decided to because he felt it was important to talk about.

The YouTube changed from the testosterone Nebido to Testogel because he had high T levels on Nebido.

“A little while after I switched back to Testogel I had a visit from an incredibly very unwelcome guest. I basically got my period for the first time in nearly four years.

“I felt really awful about it at the time and it’s hard to explain just how I felt when I realised what was happening,” Raines said.

He explained that he was “frozen” in the moment and found it “hard to make myself deal with it”.

“It was an absolutely horrible moment. My heart just dropped. I started feeling panicky. I was completely frozen on the toilet. I found it so hard to stop thinking about it and make myself get on with my day. I found it so hard to make myself deal with it I was sat there crying and freaking out,” he said.

He explained that the moment was a complete shock to him, but he had to work hard to make sure that it did not diminish his sense of manhood.

“I had no symptoms in the build up to this happening so it came as a complete shock. After nearly four years of it not happening I kind of forgot that my body could still technically do that.

“After the first day I was able to just get back to normal and snap out of this horrible feeling I had about myself and I was able to just get on with my life.

“I worked hard to not let it affect me in a negatively way – It didn’t make me any less of a man,” he said.

It has happened a few more times to Raine but he has had his testosterone levels checked and he is in a normal range.

“Mine [period] is clearly just incredibly persistent and does not want to be forgotten,” he quipped.

The YouTuber used the moment to give some advice to other trans people who may experience moments that cause dysphoria.

“Just remember that whatever stage of transition you’re in, you can get through it. It won’t last forever and it does not at all affect who you are,” he finished.
