Ellen, Elton John and LGBT allies fill Forbes rich list

A large number of LGBT+ allies take places on the Forbes rich list 2017, as well as Ellen DeGeneres and Elton John.

Chat show host DeGeneres places at number 16 on the list with an estimated $77 million in wealth.

Elton John placed at 26 on the Forbes list with some $60 million in the bank.

But as well as the two out gay personalities, there were quite a few notable LGBT+ allies by their side.

Known badass and confirmed ally to the LGBT+ community JK Rowling comes in at number three, beaten only by Beyoncé (who has defended transgender students herself) and Sean “Diddy” Combs.

The Harry Potter author is worth an estimated $95 million, according to the list.

In the past week JK Rowling has hit out at Trump for lashing out at London Mayor Sadiq Khan after the London terror attack and went on a tirade against a misogynistic tweet.

Other outspoken allies include Adele, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Schumer, Dolly Parton, Chance the Rapper and Britney Spears.

A couple of slightly less-worthy occupants of the list include Rush Limbaugh who has in the past said gay rights are “Leading To The Erosion Of Private Property”, and who was not happy when Moonlight won Best Picture at the Oscars.

Last year the talk show was worried that Barack Obama is helping lesbian farmers take over the US.

Disgraced former Fox News correspondent Bill O’Reilly also features, with an estimated $37 million in wealth.

O’Reilly was sacked by Fox News amid a string of sexual abuse allegations.

He also mocked a trans prisoner, misgendering them as he made fun of their looks.

According to Media Matters, he also claimed same-sex marriage had only been introduced due to “intimidation” by LGBT people.

He said: “One of the reasons gay marriage has come on so strong in the USA is intimidation.”

“If you oppose [same-sex marriage], you may become a target.”

But it seems that being an ally to the LGBT community is more profitable than being a bigot.
