Lesbian couple attacked in NYC subway left unconscious

A lesbian couple have been brutally attacked on a subway in New York City.
The couple, whose identities are currently anonymous, were homophobically abused and left hospitalised.
They were travelling on the Q train on their way to Brooklyn when they were set upon.
Their attacker, 27-year-old Antoine Thomas, boarded the train after them and began to yell homophobic abuse at the couple.
Thomas reportedly called the couple “f*ggot” and “d*ke”.
The couple asked the man to stop by pleading with him to calm him down.
However, he assaulted one of the women who was just 24, leaving her with broken bones and cuts.
She was taken to the Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where she was treated for a concussion, multiple deep cuts which required stitches and a broken eye socket.
The attacker attempted to flee the scene but was caught and arrested by a transit officer.
Thomas has been charged with assault, menacing and harassment.
The NYPD is currently reviewing whether Thomas will face hate crime charges on top of this.
He has been released on bail while to Hate Crimes Task Force investigates the attack.
The attack comes as a report revealed that hate crime figures have doubled since the last year in New York.
The spike in hate crimes came after President Donald Trump was elected in November.
The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force had to hire five new investigators since last year to deal with the increasing number of incidents.
