People have opinions about Tom Daley’s wedding cake

Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black are showing off their wedding cake… and it’s not getting a lot of love online.

The Olympic diver and Oscar-winning screenwriter have been dating since 2013, and announced their engagement in 2015.

The pair tied the knot in a castle ceremony earlier this month, surrounded by their family and friends.

In a YouTube video this week, the pair showed off their unique wedding cake.

The five-tier cake is themed in red, white and blue, and each tier has a different style, from stars to a dotted pattern.

In the clip, Daley shows off the cake to his newlywed husband for the first time.

The filmmaker jokes: “Oh my goodness! I’m not sure if I’m getting married or if it’s the 4th of July.

“Perhaps we’ve just won the Presidency?”

Both the pair seemed happy with their rather unique cake, sharing photos of it online, but the bold design choices were… not universally admired.

The cake has been compared to an advert for red, white and blue toothpaste brand Aquafresh.

Daley, who has competed for the UK at the Olympics, previously joked that he is “obsessed” with the Union Jack.

He said: “I’ve been obsessed with the Union Jack ever since representing the UK.”

The pair recently showed off their new central London apartment in a feature for Homes and Properties, and sure enough the flag features heavily.

Black and Daley invested in a Union Jack sofa and cushions, with storage units also decorated in the pattern, as well as their flag-based bedding.

Speaking previously, 22-year-old Daley gushed about his relationship with his new husband.

“Being with Lance has been the best thing that’s happened in my life,” he said.

“It’s very exciting moving forward and it’s nice to be in love.”

Revealing the first snaps of their special day, Daley wrote: “05.06.17 the day I married the love of my life ❤️ shared with 120 of our closest family and friends from Texarkana to Plymouth!”

They shared a string of pictures from their special day after confirming the wedding.

The group of just family and friends enjoyed a three course mean, a “massive cake” and slept in the castle after the evening wound down.

Right-wing British tabloid Daily Express seemingly was not impressed, however.

The newspaper appeared not to accept same-sex couples as having the right to marry.

The newspaper posted: “Tom Daley, 22, and Dustin Lance Black, 42, ‘MARRY’ in romantic Romeo and Juliet ceremony”.

Despite their choice of headline for Daley and Lance Black, the newspaper had not applied the same air quotes to heterosexual couples marrying.
