She wowed audiences with performances of her 1999 hit Believe the 1989 classic If I Could Turn Back Time.

She declared to the audience – which included her transgender son, Chaz Bono – that she is still fighting fit at 71.

Cher declared: “I’ve been doing it for 53 years. This is not an applause thing.

“I’m 71 yesterday. Yes. And I can do a five-minute plank, OK?. Just saying.”

Despite the huge applause from the crowd, Cher was self-deprecating in her acceptance speech.

She thanked her mother, who is still alive, for telling her she was “never going to be the most talented” but would be “special”.

“Luck has so much to do with my success with a little bit of something thrown in,” she told the Vegas arena.

Fans of Cher will be disappointed to learn that the star will not be returning to acting despite a highly anticipated film being in the works.

She had previously been due to appear in a new film.

The Oscar winner, who last appeared on the big screen in 2010’s Burlesque was set to appear in the Lifetime TV movie about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

“Unfortunately I will be unable to leave Los Angeles during the scheduled filming as I am dealing with a serious family issue that prevents me from going on location for the April filming.

“I’m so glad that [executive producers] Craig [Zadan] and Neil [Meron] plan to move ahead and I know that this Lifetime movie will be done beautifully,” she said.
