Debra Messing wants to make America gay again

Debra Messing has an important message about making America gay again.

The Will & Grace actor made an important speech about acceptance and the current political climate after receiving the GLAAD Excellence in Media award.

Ross Matthews, who awarded Messing, praised the actor for he work within advocacy for LGBT rights.

As well as calling for everybody to “make America gay again”, the actor has some wise words for the Trump administration – and more specifically Ivanka Trump, when accepting her award.

“You can’t just write #WomenWhoWork and think you’re advancing feminism. You need to be a woman who does good work #SayWhatYouMeanAndMeanWhatYouSay,” Messing said.

Messing was joined by a whole host of other inspiring voices on the evening, including Angelica Ross.

Ross, a trans activist, had a crucial message for trans women of colour.

“Your dreams matter, your stories matter, your lives matter and no matter what challenge you’re faced with, you can overcome it,” Ross said.

It has been announced that the gay staple sitcom Will & Grace is going to be revived.

Messing has defended the choice to revive the show, after a number of people feared that they would not appropriately portray current LGBT issues.

However, the actor is confident that they will do justice in “celebrating all the other initials of LGBTQ”.

The actor added that the show was hyper-aware about the current political state in America and that they would work to still “push the envelope, take chances and be a little bit outrageous.”

“It’s a scary and confusing time in our country and we just felt like we wanted to make other people laugh right now,” she added.
