There’s big news for fans of Britney Spears.

The Hit Me Baby One More Time singer is reported to be working on a major new Broadway musical.

According to Forbes, the pop superstar is set to pursue the musical when her stint in Las Vegas comes to an end later in the year.

Theatre mogul Jerry Mitchell – the man who choreographed Kinky Boots – is behind the project, saying he has met with Britney to discuss the proposition.

However fans hoping for an auto biographical tale, complete with the story of 2007 may be disappointed.

Mitchell told Forbes that it won’t be the story of Britney’s life, saying: “It would NOT be autobiographical.’

It won’t be Britney’s first time treading the boards, as she and Natalie Portman were understudies for the role of Tina in the off-Broadway show Ruthless! The Musical!

It was recently announced the performer is to finish her residency in Las Vegas.

The 35-year-old is to leave her show in Sin City on the final day of 2017.

Her publicist, Jeff Raymond, confirmed that the show’s current run until December 31st will be its final run.

But there could still be some future for Britney’s Las Vegas show – with her manager Larry Rudolph recently discussing how the show could continue “conceivably anywhere”.

Speaking to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Larry said: “We are done with this show, and our next move is undecided.

“We are still talking with Caesars Entertainment and other interested parties in Las Vegas.

“Anything is possible. We have made zero decisions.

“We expect a lot of interest from all parties. Britney basically sells out every show, and she loves Las Vegas, she loves performing in Vegas, and Vegas is a possibility going forward.”

It comes after Spears announced a series of new overseas dates.

She wrote: “Excited to be performing abroad this summer! ✨ More details available at https://britneyspears.com”

An insider told Daily Star Online: “Britney has wanted to tour for ages, her time in Vegas has given her so much more confidence and she can’t wait.

“The current plan is for the Piece of Me show to be duplicated around the world instead of a whole new set being created from scratch but discussions are in the early stages.”

She previously made headlines on Twitter with fears of her death, before it was revealed Britney’s account had been hacked, and she was in fact still alive.
