A new advert for Uber in the Philippines features a surprise gay twist.

The ad for UberPOOL, using which people share private hire vehicles, was unveiled this week by Uber.

Uber has been criticised in the past for homophobia by its drivers.

It features real-life tweets from a passenger who found himself in a ride-share with his long-time crush.

But in a cute twist, the fellow passenger he has a crush on is male.

Throughout, the face of the other passenger is obscured making it seem like it might be a woman.

And although he tweets out messages asking why there is no traffic and what he should say to his crush, the men go their separate ways at the end of the advert.

On Facebook, Uber wrote: “Based on a real series of tweets by Uber rider AJ Tabangay.

“Watch how he reacted when he ended up in an uberPOOL ride with his crush.

“Because sometimes, it’s more than just a ride. It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for.”

Coca-Cola earlier this year released a new ad, and it’s totally brilliant. The soft drinks chain has put a very special gay twist on the advert.

It’s not the first brilliant LGBT-themed ad recently, though it may be one of the best.

This ad encouraged gay couples to hold hands outside.

Meanwhile Kellog’s even got in on the action with this Corn Flakes commercial.
