The queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race have paid a special homage to George Michael.

The season nine stars got together to make their own version of his iconic Too Funky video, first released in 1992.

Wham! legend and gay icon George Michael passed away suddenly on Christmas Day of last year of natural causes.

The season nine queens’ remake features all of this year’s contestants sashaying down the runway just like Linda Evangelista, Tyra Banks and Julie Newmar did in the original.

Explaining the decision for the remake, Drag Race queen Peppermint told Billboard: “George Michael remained a chart-topping artist and an absolute inspiration to me and many queer people during a time when being openly gay was a career killer.”

“It’s likely the public would have rejected him had he come out in the ’80s and instead he had them dancing, celebrating, and even singing along to lyrics about the life & love of a queer man.”

Peppermint added: “Though the original ’Too Funky’ video can never be replaced, I always wanted to live out my fantasy of being one of the supermodels he had on the runway and now I get a chance to share this moment with my season 9 RuPaul’s Drag Race sisters.”

Superstar Mariah Carey also paid her own musical tribute while performing in Dubai.

Carey revealed she had been a fan and latterly a friend of the Wham! icon during his life.

When he passed, she posted a message about him on her website that reads: “George was not only a great musician, he was an active ambassador in the LBGTQ community, pushing for greater understanding, acceptance, and love for all people.

“He touched so many lives and inspired us all.”

Carey shared a video of her singing that cover of One More Try at a live concert in Dubai, captioning the video, “We miss you, George Michael.”

“I always loved it, I always loved him,” Mariah said before she sang the song.

“He was a really great person. So we’ll make it through this.”
