Gay character in Dear White People asks important question in Netflix trailer

Alice Milliken April 14, 2017

The latest trailer for new Netflix series Dear White People features a character asking an important question about his sexuality.

The series, based off Justin Simien’s film of the same name, published its most recent trailer yesterday.

It shows Lionel, an aspiring gay journalist, played here by DeRon Horton, questioning his sexual identity in the kind of way that we all have at some point.

Lionel gets a little more air time in the series than he does in the film.

He uses it to explore his sexuality, and is shown fantasising about his hunky roommate in the trailer.

Each episode will follow and develop a different character’s experience.

Dear White People features a tongue-in-cheek plot about the experience of ethnically diverse students at a majority white Ivy League university in America.

It was inspired by the @DearWhitePeople Twitter account set up by Simien while he was working as a publicist.

The trailer for Season 5 of Orange is the New Black was released on Tuesday.
