This Republican wants to help Katy Perry ‘pray the gay away’

A former Republican lawmaker has attempted to help ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer Katy Perry pray the gay away.

Perry recently spoke about her own sexual experiences with women and the meaning behind the 2008 song.

The singer explained that after experimenting with girls she tried to “pray the gay away”.

She explained: “When I was growing up, homosexuality was synonymous with the word ‘abomination’… and hell.

“I wanted the pearly gates and unlimited fro-yo toppings, so most of my adolescence,  I prayed the gay away at my Jesus camps.”

It clearly did not work, however – and Perry has gone on to become an LGBT icon.

But one Republican lawmaker is wishing she tried a little bit harder.

Gordon Klingenschmitt, who sat in the Colorado House of Representatives until this year, accused Perry of not trying hard enough to rid herself of homosexuality.

On his TV show Pray in Jesus’ Name, Klingenschmitt led a public prayer to make sure Perry is “born again [and] that she will repent of her sin and stop promoting sin to young people”.

Addressing the singer directly, though she is unlikely to be a regular viewer, he explained: “Katie, you know that God made them male and female. This is what in Genesis, this is what Jesus says, Jesus affirms.

“If you went to a Jesus camp, maybe you remember, God made them male and female. For this cause, a man shall leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. Jesus affirmed the definition of marriage between one man and one woman. If you had been sincere in your prayers at the Jesus camp, you would have prayed against sin and the devil. You would have repented of your sin and invited Jesus to rule your heart. But

“You would have repented of your sin and invited Jesus to rule your heart. But apparently, that’s not what you prayed. Katie, she who sins is of the devil. You are ruled by Satan.

“Katy Perry, you don’t just need more of your Jesus camps, more of the Bible, more of what your parents told you; you need to get the devil out of you.”

Klingenschmitt remains a Republican despite his long track record of anti-LGBT extremism.

Last year he claimed that Caitlyn Jenner needs to be exorcised of her transgender ‘demons’.

He has also claimed that gay people will soon demand the right to have sex in the houses of good honest Christians.

Prior to his election, Klingenschmitt claimed that gay soldiers cause problems in the military by “taking breaks on the combat field to change diapers”, because their “treacherous sin” means they “lose control of their bowels”.

He also claimed that “liberals demand public access to rape your girls” by allowing “transgenders” to use female toilets.

He recently claimed that gay people should be banned from teaching because they set a “bad example” due to their “demonic” homosexuality.
