There has been a lot of fuss about Disney’s first gay character recently.

People have been up in arms about the ‘gay moment’ from Le Fou in the new Beauty and the Beast re-make – Malaysia even trying to ban it.

Now a ‘Disney animator of 50 years’ has come forward with some explosive claims about gay characters.

He says there have been hundreds of gay characters in the films.

In fact, he’s made a YouTube video pointing out every gay character he ever made.

Disney films apparently include gay characters in everything from crocodiles, monkeys and lesbian clams.

The parody video is the work of XVP Comedy, and so sadly these inconspicuous animals probably aren’t gay.

But given news that these male penguins have defied zoo bosses and, instead of having sex with female penguins, had sex with each other, then we should never assume the sexuality of random animals.

And in real life, Disney recently broadcast a gay kiss in cartoon for the first time.

The recent live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, included a minor gay plot arc featuring villainous sidekick LeFou.

The character, played by Josh Gad, appeared infatuated with his evil boss Gaston throughout most of the movie. However, after cutting ties with Gaston, LeFou was later shown dancing with another man at a party.

Disney was praised by LGBT rights groups for refusing to cut the scenes from Beauty and the Beast. The Malaysian branch of Walt Disney said that the film, which was due to be shown in cinemas, had been postponed due to an “internal review”.

And the multi-billion-pound animation company fought with Malaysian censors, who eventually backed down, allowing the film to be shown in full in the country, including the “gay moment”.

Though the character, Le Fou, is only seen fleetingly dancing with another man, it was enough to upset Colorado Republican Gordon Klingenschmitt.

Klingenschmitt, who until this year sat in the Colorado House of Representatives, took to his talk show Pray In Jesus Name to claim that “demonic spirits” are using the film to “recruit children into sin.”

The battle in Malaysia may have been won, however; as days later, censors announced that the new Power Rangers film would be shown in full, despite having an out lesbian character.

The reboot of the 90s TV show and film series sees one of the five main characters struggle with her relationship with another girl in the film’s second act.

Trini, the Yellow Ranger, eventually comes to terms with her sexual orientation and is accepted by all the other characters, said director Dean Israelite.

Meanwhile, the annual PinkNews April Fools article which announced that Simba would identify as gay in an upcoming Lion King remake sent homophobes around the globe into a frenzy.

But while many questioned why an animal would be gay, they might not have realised that many thousands of species of animal enter same-sex relationships.

These gay penguins recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary.
