New research has revealed some very negative attitudes towards same-sex marriages.

According to new data published by an LGBT specialist insurer, a shocking 21% of Brits would turn down an invitation to a same-sex wedding.

“One in five (21%) people in the UK would refuse an invitation to a same-sex wedding or are unsure if they would attend.

“A further 11% would attend but admitted that they would feel uneasy during parts of the day,” the insurance provider told Attitude.

The findings were even more shocking among older Brits.

Half of people over the age of 65 say they would “feel discomfort” at attending a gay couple’s special day.

However, there is some positive in the results.

The large proportion of over 65s distorts the results overall, meaning the vast majority of younger people would be fine with celebrating their friend’s wedding.

The survey comes almost exactly three years after the same-sex marriage came into force, in march 2014.

In Germany, Chancellor Merkel’s opponents have published a same-sex marriage bill, in a bid to push the country into introducing the reform.
