Mike Huckabee suggests ‘anti-Trump’ Republican Lindsey Graham is gay

Nick Duffy March 30, 2017

Pro-Trump Republican Mike Huckabee has smeared the sexuality of one of his colleagues.

Former Governor of Arkansas and Fox News host Mike Huckabee made the claim about South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, who has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration on a number of issues.

In an interview with Laura Ingraham, Huckabee responded to Senator Graham’s intervention in a row over Donald Trump’s spurious wiretapping claims.

He said: “I’m very disappointed in Lindsey.”

In an apparent reference to the Senator’s sexuality, he said: “I sometimes wonder what uniform he puts on each morning when goes out to the field to play… and I’m not just talking about the partisan uniform.”

Graham – a moderate opponent of LGBT rights who has never been married and has no children – has previously denied rumours about his sexuality after being branded “ambiguously gay” by a Republican primary opponent.

While running for President, the Republican claimed he would rotate the position of First Lady between his female friends and family members.

Responding to rumours about his sexuality on a previous occasion, Graham joked about whether he was having a secret affair with Ricky Martin.

He joked: “Maybe I’m having a clandestine affair with Ricky Martin. I know it’s really gonna upset a lot of gay men — I’m sure hundreds of ’em are gonna be jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge — but I ain’t available. I ain’t gay. Sorry.”

Huckabee has a long history of anti-LGBT animus.

He rallied behind Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, compared anti-LGBT activists to Martin Luther King, labelled gay parents ‘destructive’, and ‘joked’ that he wishes he were transgender to spy on teenage girls in the shower.

In a previous ‘joke’ he said: “Your seven-year-old daughter, if she goes into the restroom, cannot be offended and you can’t be offended if she’s greeted there by a 42-year-old man who feels more like a woman than he does a man.

“Now I wish that someone told me that when I was in high school that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in PE.

“I’m pretty sure that I would have found my feminine side and said, ‘Coach, I think I’d rather shower with the girls today’.”
