David Walliams says life would be ‘simpler’ if he wasn’t attracted to women
Former Little Britain star David Walliams has said life could be “simpler” if he weren’t attracted to women.
Speaking to Attitude magazine, the Britain’s Got Talent judge said lots of people assume he is gay because he is camp.
He said: “I don’t know why anyone would rule [a relationship with a man] out. Why would anyone say that’s never going to happen?
“I do love women and I’m attracted to women but sometimes I think it would be simpler if I wasn’t – because people think I’m gay and I’m camp.”
Speaking to Esquire, Walliams previously said: “I’ve always been camp.
“A lot of people can’t make the distinction between someone who’s camp and someone who’s gay.
“It’s a thing people really fear in themselves and I think everyone who’s homophobic probably has gay thoughts and feelings.”
Walliams back in December said he had “played up” to public assumption he was gay.
The comedian admitted that he is “quite camp” but said he was baffled by the level of interest there was in people’s sexuality.
Speaking to CNBC, the Britain’s Got Talent judge said he wasn’t bothered by the rumours around his personal life, especially as he rose to fame in the early 2000s.
“I played up to it,” he said.
“Little Britain was a very camp show and Matt [Lucas], who is gay, is actually quite blokeish and he likes things like going to watch Arsenal.
“Whereas, I am quite camp and much more, sort of wanting to go out to the ballet and things like that.
“So, I mean we’re talking in quite stereotypical terms that is probably not that helpful because everyone’s different, aren’t they?”
The Come Fly with Me star added that people often seemed confused when he was reported to be with women.
He added: “I was I linked to some glamorous women so there was a kind of, ‘Oh hang on, how is this man who wears a dress, you know, being seen out with these glamorous women?'”
“It confused people.”
In 2013, Walliams seemed to imply he was pansexual when he said he could fall in love with a man or a woman because for him, it was the person’s “soul and heart and brain” he was attracted to.

He married Dutch supermodel Lara Stone in 2010 but they divorced in 2015. They have a son called Alfred.
In his interview with Tania Bryer, the 45-year-old also addressed speculation around fellow Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell.
He said: “I think he’s the kind of person who has his life exactly how he wants it. If he doesn’t want to get up until four in the afternoon, he won’t.
“If he wants to have sausages and chips every night for his dinner, he will.”
Earlier this year, it was revealed that David would be reviving Blankity Blank, originally hosted by Paul O’Grady’s drag alter-ego Lily Savage.
He also revealed that he hates it when people feel they have to confess their sexuality.
