The latest edition of a multi-million-pound video game series features gay sex scenes.

Mass Effect Andromeda, released on Tuesday, is the newest in a collection of games which have sold a combined 13 million copies.

The series has enjoyed a huge global following since it began 10 years ago, and the latest edition is expected to be bought three million times in its first week.

And it has been revealed that the new game follows in the footsteps of Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 in including gay, straight and human-alien sexual encounters.

Playing as protagonist Scott Ryder, you can flirt with either ship engineer Gil Brodie or smuggler Reyes Vidal – or both.

When you’ve chosen which relationship to fully pursue – and if you play your cards right (literally, in Gil’s case) – you get to the good stuff, as both storylines end with different sexy outcomes.

And if you choose to play as Sara Ryder instead, the game again gives you an option to pursue lesbian relationships, for instance with science officer Suvi, journalist Keri T’Vessa or alien Peebee.

Players are pleased the game includes gay storylines, but have complained about only being able to consummate two relationships when playing as the gay version of Scott Ryder.

If you choose a straight version of the main character, you can explore sexual paths with five different females.

And gamers have also criticised Bioware, who make the Mass Effect series, for making the gay sex scenes less explicit than their straight equivalents.

In a sex scene between straight Scott Ryder and his second-in-command Cora Harper, the characters are shown fully naked, having sex standing up.

Here is a video of Scott and Gil’s whole relationship, if you’re interested.
