Ellen DeGeneres has revealed that she injured herself in the most Ellen way possible this weekend.

After a couple of drinks this weekend at a dinner party with her wife Portia De Rossi, the celebrated chat show host tripped in spectacular fashion.

The resulting fall left her with a dislocated finger and a hilarious – though very embarrassing – story to tell.

She made light of the accident while describing it to her audience on Ellen yesterday, quipping: “So, you know how in gymnastics when you do a one-handed cartwheel and you have to spread the weight evenly between all your fingers?

“Well, I had two glasses of wine and fell into a door.”

Last year, Ellen took Michelle Obama shopping for boxed wine at health store CVS, and she has also featured a glass on the show which can fit an entire bottle of wine at once.

Describing the fateful event, she said: “The dogs were so excited to see us and I caught the lip of the top step.

“I was a foot away from the door and I fell into the door and it did something to my finger; I knew something was wrong.”

She went to the hospital, and joked to the audience: “My first thought was: ‘No big deal, Obamacare will cover this.’

“I dislocated my finger. That’s what they call it, which is an incorrect term because I knew where it was located. It was just wrongly located is what it was.”

Ellen said her nurse asked her: “’Do you want a shot?’ and I said, ‘No, I had two glasses of wine – that’s what got me into this mess in the first place.’

“She meant a shot to numb my finger. She said, ‘You’re gonna feel a little prick.’ This is a daytime show – you make up your own joke there.”

The host and star of Finding Dory told her fans that despite the accident, she wouldn’t let them down. “I know what you’re thinking: ‘How can you host a show without the tip of my ring finger?’

“I am not gonna let this thing beat me. I am not.”
