Grindr T emoji ditched as users warned it could mean crystal meth

Meka Beresford March 19, 2017

Grindr has dropped the T emoji from it’s new range of custom gay emojis afters users warned that it could stand for crystal meth.

After the range was launched this month users speculated over the meaning of the T emoji.

Some suggested it could refer to the gay slang “tea” meaning gossip, while others thought it could mean T for top.

However, many more people came to the worrying conclusion that it stood for Tina – a shortened slang word of Christina, which refers to crystal.

The gay dating app removed the emoji without a statement after users broadcasted their concerns on twitter.

“Grindr’s new emoji keyboard includes a capital T, which is slang for meth. That’s… body nonjudgmental, I guess?” wrote one user.

“So Grindr has added its own emojis. Is there anything else T stands for other than Tina (crystal)? That’s how it’ll be used. Helpful,” added another.

Other emojis released in the update included a whole range of different eggplants, from black to white, long to small and even pierced.

Emojis that cater to different fetishes including feet, ball gags and blindfolds are also included.

Despite some of the more X-rated emojis, the app has also made a push to promote diversity with numerous variations on same-sex families.

As well as diverse families, the app is also promoting HIV prevention drug PrEP with a blue truvada pill.
