The reason, she says, was that her husband Jeff, a screenwriter and poet, was gay and that they had come to know this years before they decided to break up.

The couple have three children together and even after separating, described each other as “soulmates”.

Taking to Facebook, Jill writeS: “For a very long time, the deep love we had for one another sustained us through the more difficult moments that our increasingly divergent sexuality created”.

Ending her post, she expressed love and admiration for her husband, writing “love is love is love”.

The post has been liked over a thousand times and has attracted hundreds of supportive messages, both for Jill and for Jeff.

Writing on her blog, Jeff responded with a post titled ‘When love isn’t exactly love: Divorcing my soulmate’.

He talks about his relief since coming out, and also expresses love and admiration for his wife.
