George W. Bush explains why he adores Michelle Obama

President George W. Bush says he adores Michelle Obama, just like the rest of us.

The 43rd president has been giving interviews for the first time in years, as he promotes a new book of his paintings.

The pair have often been photographed together during formal events.

When Mrs Obama embraced Bush at the opening ceremony for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture last September, the photo of their warm interaction went viral.

“When I saw her, it was a genuine expression of affection,” Bush told People magazine of the moment.

Now he’s explained his adoration for the former First Lady – and it’s because she’s hysterical.

“She kind of likes my sense of humor. Anybody who likes my sense of humor, I immediately like,” Bush said.

The pair are frequently sat next to each other at events, and have become known for their giggling.

“I can’t remember where else I’ve sat next to her, but I probably have a few wisecracks and she seemed to like it OK,” Bush said.

“I needle her a little bit and around her, I’m fairly lighthearted. (The Obamas) are around serious people all the time and we just took to each other.”

Ellen paid an emotional tribute to the Obamas as they left office in January.

Ellen also had POTUS 43 on her show – and got him to share his lighter side.
