Spanish authorities try to have anti-trans bus campaign banned
The local government in Madrid is attempting to ban a bus advertising campaign that attacks transgender people.
The bus campaign reads in Spanish: “If you’re born a man, you’re a man. If you’re a woman, you’ll always be a woman.”
But the regional government in the city is assessing whether it has the power to have the campaign banned.
It was introduced in protest against campaigns to allow children to legally change their gender and has already appeared on the streets of the Spanish capital.
The bus ads were paid for by Hazte Oir (Make Yourself Heard), an organisation which has in the past campaigned against abortion.
The organisation paid for the ads in response to campaigns to raise awareness of issues faced by trans children.
The regional government is assessing, in cooperation with police, whether anti-discrimination laws have been broken by the campaign.
According to reports, the bus will visit seven other Spanish cities.
