Three men have been arrested after two London gay clubs were raided by police last night.

The two venues, Lightbox and Fire in Vauxhall, were raided after police received a tip-off that drugs were being sold inside the premises.

Two men, one of which was a staff member at Lightbox, were arrested on suspicion of class A drugs.

A third man was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

The raids took place in the early hours of Friday morning on the 24th of February.

The Chief Inspector who carried out the operation vowed that raid was to protect people at the LGBT venues.

“This operation was based on intelligence that indicated harmful substances were being sold at these nightclubs,” said Chief Inspector Lance Lamnea, of Lambeth borough.

Lamnea went on to vow the police’s commitment so London night life, but insisted that anti-social behaviour must be cracked down on.

“We are committed to supporting a vibrant night time economy in the capital. But where we suspect offences are taking place we must take swift action to protect the public.

“In this case, anti-social behaviour has been having a detrimental effect on the lives of those living and working in the area,” he added.

The Inspector ensured that in the future, police will be working closely with the clubs and reviewing the impact that might be had on licensing.

He said: “We will be working closely with both the clubs’ management and our partners to ensure the continuing safety of the public.

“[We will] consider whether there will be any impact on licensing issues.”
