This homophobic politician’s worst nightmare comes true in the new Alien film

Nick Duffy February 23, 2017

The latest film in the Alien series will feature a gay couple sent to colonise a planet – and Republican Louie Gohmert might not be happy about it.

Alien: Covenant, the sixth instalment in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi Alien series, is set to be released in May.

Ahead of the launch, a four-minute prologue was released online today, revealing a gay couple will be characters in the upcoming release.

The film introduces the pair, played by Demián Bichir and Nathaniel Dean, aboard the spaceship Covenant – where they are one of seven couples sent to colonise a planet.

As they prepare to go into cryosleep. the pair are shown cuddling, arm-wrestling and kissing.

A real-life Republican congressman previously warned about the dangers of sending gay couples into space.

Spectacularly homophobic Texas congressman Louie Gohmert made the comments in a speech opposing LGBT equality on the floor of the House of Representatives last year – mangling the plot of the film ‘The Martian’ in the process.

He said: “If an asteroid were an asteroid coming, something that would end humanity on earth as dinosaurs were ended at one time…. we have a space ship that will go as Matt Damon did in the movie, plant a colony somewhere.

“We can have humans survive this terrible disaster about to befall them.

“If you could decide what 40 people you put on the spacecraft that would save humanity… how many of those would be same sex couples?”

He added: “You’re wanting to save humankind for posterity, basically a modern-day Noah, you have the opportunity to be a modern day Noah, you can preserve life.

“How many same sex couples would you take from the animal kingdom and from humans to put on the spacecraft to perpetuate humanity and the wildlife kingdom?”

The answer, apparently, is one in seven.

Given the extreme similarity between his comments and the premise of the new Alien film, we’re not entirely sure it’s coincidence,

The clip has attracted some questions from some sci-fi fans, confused why there were a gay couple on what appears to be a colonising mission.

A YouTube commenter wrote: “dont take this the wrong way but if they are there to colonize a planet why are there two gays on board? doesnt really make much sense.”

Given spaceships and interstellar travel exist in the Alien universe, we think that they have probably mastered IVF by now.
