Laverne Cox has finally met with Gavin Grimm, the trans teen at the centre of an upcoming Supreme Court case.

Gavin is suing his school board for not allowing him to use the bathroom that corresponds to his gender identity.

Having lost in his initial court appearance and won on appeal, the highest court in the land will now decide his and thousands of trans teens’ fate.

Posting the meeting on Facebook Live, Laverne spoke of how his fight was the same as the one taken by a number of minority groups over the years.

“Often in the course of our country’s history is one person who didn’t want to be famous, didn’t want to be of note but stood up for what was right and they changed the course of history,” she said.

“And I think that could be you Gavin…I hope that is you.”

Earlier this month, Laverne used an appearance at the Grammys to raise the profile of Gavin’s case.

She encouraged people to “#standwithGavin”.

Responding to Laverne’s shout out, Gavin said he was “really touched” and “thrilled” she mentioned his case.

“At this point, that’s the role I occupy and I want to make sure I’m using that platform for positive,” he added.

Last year, Laverne took on Beyonce at Lip Sync Battle and slayed it.
